At La Patronne, two-week winter residency I attended a month ago, I worked little bit on every project I have at the moment. One of them is to make a series of drapes (I first called them ponchos but I don’t like the word ‘poncho’ so now I call them ‘drapes.’), which initially were doodles with friends at home, then the doodle continued at a bar, then grew in a project.

During the residency, I sketched them digitally, testing colors and made some mini mock-ups.

I imagine (‘imagine’ is the keyword as it only lives in my head at the moment) that the real pieces will be oversized drapes which are made from hand dyed fabrics. I would also like to hand sew them, but that would require enormous patient, which I lack enormously. So let’s see ; )

BEHIND THE STORY / RESIDENCY AT GALERIE 126 - angdoo.com/blog

Early September, already more than a month ago, Mattie and I arrived at Galerie 126 in Rennes to prepare for our Amateurs exhibition. The following ten coming days, we lived in a grand humongous house adjoining the gallery space. I’ve already posted the photos of the exhibition, but I thought to share those ten days before the exhibition, which in many ways is more special for me.

When Galerie 126 first asked Amateurs to exhibit there, I was very flattered. Mattie had done many exhibitions before, however it was first for me. It’s been only two or three years since I started making some art pieces as a side fun, and I only dreamed of doing a show maybe in the far far away future. So I was pretty thrilled.

For those who don’t know Galerie 126, it is a house-turned-art-residency and a garage-turned-art-gallery in Rennes. Four loveliest boys in town – Toto, Louis, Hugo and Quentin – who live and run the gallery, invite artists from all over the world to stay with them for a few weeks and have an exhibition at the end of the stay.

Yup, it is quite a special place with special people : )

There are two cats there. This is Luke, the coolest cat I ever met. Strangely I don’t have any photos of Buba, the three-legged-half-tailed-cat, who is equally cool and oh so soft with a touch of sassiness (strange because I take photos of every animal I encounter).

TOTE BAGS / WIP - ANGDOO.COM/BLOG

Mattie and I are busy making tote bags for our Amateurs. We briefly spoke about this project during out interview with Sight Unseen.

So we are on it and having fun cutting, ironing and basically making a mess out of our house. Mattie and I decided to hold off and not reveal any of the bags until the project is completely finished. Suspense? ; ) But here you can see some of the mess. Now, imagine this ALL over the house.

GIVE ME AN ASSIGNMENT #01 / WIP - ANGDOO.COM/BLOG

I would like to share my work-in-progress of the first “GIVE ME AN ASSIGNMENT” project. If you don’t know what “GIVE ME AN ASSIGNMENT” project is, it is an ongoing personal project I’ve made up, and you can read more about it here.

So the first assignment was given by Richard Niessen, who assigned me to create a ceremony for a person who is very important to me and also greatly influenced me. So I’ve decided to create a ceremony for my dad. To be specific, I wanted to celebrate his ability to detach, one of his many characteristics I look up to and would like to take on one day.

More I thought of this invented ceremony, it felt like a calm meditative event. So I collected stones, painted them and balanced them into several sculptures. And I documented this ceremony in a stop motion film.
