As I posted here a few days ago, we had our zine launch this past Saturday at Module.

We had posters on the wall, which were the extra or experimental prints we made during the making of the zines, and also nailed the tea towels on the wall. We showed our zines on a long table.

I’ve been to exhibitions, openings and launches, but it definitely feels different when you are on the other side. Especially since this was my first time doing any sort of launch, and although it was a small one and Mattie was doing it with me, I was still, as always, shy about showing my works. But many came by to check out what we have made, showed interest, and hung out with us through out the day despite the rainy weather.

As we were metro’ing back home at the end of the day, I realized how amazing it is that people would give us their precious time and hard earned money for what we make. Truly grateful. Also big big thanks to Module for opening the space for us, for the generosity, for making this possible <3

Tea towels: RUE DES BELLES FEUILLES

Researching and trying to find a way to stamp dye onto fabric for RUE DES BELLES FEUILLES took a long while. Once I finally made giant stamps and Mattie made me a stamping surface with edges so I can line up the stamps, Mattie thought of a new project for himself – a giant zine. So he also cut out stamps while I was busy stamping on my linens, and he also stamped, not on fabric, but on paper. He also suggested that I make prints on paper using the same stamps I used on linen. Mattie chose to stamp with offset printing ink which takes some days to dry. So in between my dye mixtures, giant stamps, test fabric pieces, linen, drying rack, chemical water buckets taking over every floor, wall, even fridge space in our tiny flat, we also attached lines across the ceiling to hang dry the prints as we slept under them for several weeks.

The result is our two zines. These two are not your typical zine in size nor technique. We would like to show them to you in person this coming Saturday, November 4th at Module in Paris, from 2 to 8pm. Come by, have some candies, wish Mattie a happy birthday (it’s his birthday!) and flip through the zines. See you there! : )

<CODE ERREUR>, a zine by Lomé 77 and edited by Super-structure, which I picked up at Salon Mirage in Brussels last weekend.

I met Lomé several years ago while she was working with Frenchfourch. Since we never really talk and only exchange hello’s and smiles every time we come across each other, she is a mystery to me. And she probably doesn’t know that I’m a fan of her works.

More of her works here, and you can get your copy of this zine here.

Mattie and I selected our favorite drawings from the tall drawing book we’ve made for our exhibition at Straat Galerie last year, scanned them, and put them together into a zine.

NEW ZINES AND NEW BOOK / FOTOKINO - angdoo.com/blog

While Mattie and I were having our AMATEURS exhibition at Straat Galerie this past spring, Studio Fotokino was also having an exhibition showcasing several interesting small edition companies. I was happy to visit such a cozy place full of sunlight and nice books and zines. Let me share with you what we picked up.

This zine, called <B – R – Y>, is by Corners Publishing in Korea. It is a very simple technical risograph color chart, yet is so satisfying to look at.

The second half of the zine is placed upside down. I believe this is a mistake, but it made me smile nevertheless : )

The second one <Spectres> is by Roméo Julien and printed by FP&CF. This riso printed zine definitely needs to be seen and touched in person to really appreciate it. You will know what I mean when you get to hold one in person ; )

This last book <A Catalogue of Constant Motion> is by Amanda Marsalis, published by Automatic Books. It is a riso printed book of polaroid photos Amanda Marsalis took over the years. The layout, the paper texture and four color riso print all come together so nicely.
