Mattie and I spent some time in LA over Christmas and New Year’s. We spent half our time there eating Chinese with my family and the other half helping out my friends who were setting up a new cafe B TWENTYFOUR. They also run a deli and bottle shop The Heights which Mattie designed the logo and sign painted its exterior almost two years back. Mattie once again designed a logo for B TWENTYFOUR and made the signage for the business. And this time we also got to make some art pieces to decorate their beautiful high ceiling interior.

We made a series of paintings on fabric, which we cut, sew and painted.

We flew back to Paris before it opened, but B TWENTYFOUR is now open. So the locals, go visit, grab a coffee (or horchata latte which I really want to try!), enjoy the sign and the paintings and let me know what you think ; )

FAVORITE HOUSE / LA - angdoo.com/blog

While Mattie and I were in LA, our friends drove us to the top of a hill in Lincoln Heights. Mattie and I picked out our favorite house. Quite old, run down, but full of charm. Oh and the view! If we ever move to LA, this is our house.

TACO STAND / LA - angdoo.com/blog

There are many things in LA I’m not a fan of. But taco stands, one of very few things I miss about LA.

FLYING TO LA / I WONDER

A few weeks ago, Mattie and I flew to LA. I took my second favorite potato chips (my supermarket doesn’t carry my favorite potato chips anymore), and this is what happened to it. I wonder if this is what’s happening to my body too.

BLUEBERRIES / HOME HOME - ANGDOO.COM/BLOG

I came back home from home home a few days ago. Ever since I moved away from ‘home’ about 10 years ago, ‘home’ became where I live at the moment, and ‘home home’ is where my parents are. So I just came back to Paris after three long (and short) weeks with my family and friends in Los Angeles. As always, jet lag is winning, and I wake up at 1.30 PM everyday.

LA is always great. The weather never disappoints me – always warm, sunny and perfect. It’s where I grew up, and everything feels comfortable. And perhaps that ‘comfort’ repels me from moving back home home. Yet I’m not too sure why I’m not yet ready to return. Well, that is another story.

This is an important once a year trip I take during the christmas/new year holiday to see my parents. If I have to think about it, it is sad that I get to see my mom and dad only once a year. Every time I leave them, I cry. After 10 plus years of being away from them, I’m conditioned to cry whenever I’m about to line up for the security check at LAX. So whenever I leave home home behind and return home, I have one or two weeks of slight depression/down time until I start functioning normal again. That plus jet lag equals me getting up at 1.30 PM and my luggage not yet unpacked.

So this is how I start my year every year, slightly sad and down. I just think of it as my new year comes a little later than others. Give me a few more days and I’ll be up and ready for 2015 : ) Sorry I was gone from the blog for a while. Hope this post explains a little why. I’ll be back soon I promise!
